Mattia Trani is recognized as one of the most influential Italian figures in the international techno landscape, with a career built on solid historical roots and continuous artistic evolution. Born into a musical family, he developed his musical background from an early age, studying piano before moving into DJing and music production.
His sound is shaped by obsessive research, hands-on use of analog machines, and a hybrid approach that moves across warehouse techno, rave energy, acid influences and drum’n’bass-driven rhythms. This distinctive vision allowed him to build a personal and immediately recognizable identity from the very beginning.
In 2012, he founded Pushmaster Discs, a label that quickly became a reference point for raw and uncompromising techno. The platform played a key role in Mattia’s international positioning, leading to collaborations with artists such as Ben Sims, Juan Atkins and DJ Stingray, and establishing Pushmaster Discs as a focused and independent artistic universe rather than a simple personal outlet.
Detroit represents the foundation of Mattia Trani’s artistic identity. This connection reached a historic milestone when he became the only Italian artist ever invited to curate an official radio episode for Underground Resistance in 2014, a rare recognition that confirms the authenticity of his relationship with the Motor City legacy. While rooted in Detroit, Mattia has since expanded his vision, evolving his sound and language toward new horizons.
Over the years, his music has gained strong support and recognition from key figures of the contemporary scene such as Amelie Lens and Nina Kraviz, both declared fans of his work. With Nina, Mattia has also collaborated directly on two occasions, releasing twice on her label Trip Recordings.
During the pandemic period, Mattia remained extremely active creatively. In 2021, he released his second album Scenery, a 15-track project conceived during global lockdowns and pressed as a deluxe triple vinyl box. The album stands as one of the most defining chapters of his career, blending hardgroove, rave, nu-techno and jungle/DnB influences into a functional and timeless body of work.
In June 2023, the project was expanded with Scenery – The Remixes, featuring reworks by key figures such as Robert Hood, Marcel Dettmann, Luke Slater and Ken Ishii, further reinforcing the album’s relevance across different generations and techno aesthetics. Later that year, Mattia also released music on Monnom Black, the label curated by Dax J.
In recent years, Mattia has continued to push forward through high-profile collaborations and performances. He shared the stage in multiple performances with hard techno legend AnD, a collaboration that highlights the respect he has earned across different techno movements. His studio work has further expanded through collaborations with 6ejou and with T78 on the track Merit, which reached #1 in the Hard Techno Top 100 on Beatport.
Today, Mattia Trani performs extensively across Europe and Asia and holds long-standing residencies that reflect his central role within the scene. He is a resident artist at Galactica Festival, where he also serves as A&R for the festival’s label, actively shaping its artistic direction. He is also a long-term resident DJ at the iconic Cocoricò, a role he has held for over ten years.
Through years of consistency, evolution and high-level collaborations, Mattia Trani has earned the nickname “Italian King of Techno”, a title that reflects the respect gained on the dancefloor, in the studio and across the global techno community.
